Marvel fans have been anticipating the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War for so long that it has almost become a physical ache in their collective bones. Fans were given a glimmer of hope after a first-look Infinity War trailer debuted at SDCC '17, but in the months since, Marvel hasn't released the footage online in any official form.
With the release of Thor: Ragnarok in theaters, a lot of Marvel fans figured that Marvel Studios would also debut the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, but that has not turned out to be the case. Handling disappointment has never been the a strong suit of the fan community, so there's understandably been backlash from the Marvel faithful who went into Thor: Ragnarok hoping for a big reveal.
This post from Avengers: Infinity War directors The Russo Brothers playfully trolls fans freaking out over the trailer release date. The footage is from a late '70s/80s line of commercials for Paul Masson wine, featuring Citizen Kane director, Orson Welles.
Welles' analogy to Beethoven's symphony and delivery of the line "No wine before its time" are the real messages here. It's The Russo's friendly metaphorical way of saying 'Hey, we're cooking up the biggest superhero movie crossover event, ever; it takes time to get the flavors right.'
Thor: Ragnarok is in theaters. Other upcoming MCU movies include Black Panther on February 16, 2018, 2017, Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018, Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.
