The Lord of the Rings star Viggo Mortensen, 56, has been offered the role of the main villain in the next Bourne film, according to Variety.
Sources have told Variety that Viggo Mortensen was holding the offer to play the assassin tracking Bourne but has not confirmed whether he will be joining the cast.
Mortensen has been dodging big-budget Hollywood films ever since he finished Peter Jackson's original Middle-Earth trilogy. He reportedly passed on roles in Man of Steel, Thor: The Dark World and even the opportunity to reprise his role as Aragorn in The Hobbit finale. Perhaps it is time for Viggo to make his return to mainstream studio films.
The next Bourne film will star Matt Damon and Julia Stiles. It will be directed by Paul Greengrass, who is also writing the script along with Christopher Rouse.
The next chapter of the Bourne films is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
