'Godzilla: Planet Of The Monsters' Teases New Monster

Netflix's forthcoming animated movie Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is bringing back plenty of old (gruesome) faces, and in a just-released tweet they have added another name to that list: Dagahra.

The creature, which first appeared in 1997's Rebirth of Mothra 2, will play a role in Planet of the Monsters, as suggested by a new tweet featuring what looks like a screen capture from the film.

The tweet, per Google Translate, identifies December 2017 as the date of Dagahra's appearance in Sydney (Australia). It suggests that the image, seen below, depicts unidentified substances emanating from Dagahra's body.

The image presents a winged, reptillian-looking creature not unlike the original Dagahra, standing amid destruction juxtaposed against some of Sydney's most recognizable landmarks.

In Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, seemingly just called Godzilla in its Netflix listing, a desperate group of refugees attempts to recolonize Earth 20,00 years after Godzilla took over — but one young man wants revenge above all else.

This presumably suggests that just because a character like Dagahra appears in the present day (to the audience) does not mean it will play a significant role in the overall story of the movie, which is set in the distant future.

Planet of the Monsters is being produced by Netflix with Toho, the storied Japanese studio who controls the Godzilla rights and whose work is by and large more beloved than their American licensees by most Godzilla fans.
