21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie filmmakers Chris Miller and Phil Lord are the most sought after writing/directing team working in Hollywood today. That is why it is no surprise that Disney hired them to helm their Star Wars standalone film focusing on a young Holo Solo film and Sony has them developing an animated Spider-Man movie.

In a recent interview, Miller admitted that he and Lord feel “huge pressure” working on the Han Solo film, which is being written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan. “We always try and find something that’s gonna make us… give a fire to our bellies and do a really good job,” Miller told IGN at the Television Critics Association press tour. “And this feels like there’s a lot of pressure to not screw this up. So we’ve definitely got that motivation and then the rest of it is about trying to give audiences a fresh experience that doesn’t feel like you’re just trying to check off some checklist of beats that you’re expecting and make something that feels new and exciting for people, but at the same time honoring what was so great about that character.”

“I could talk to you for a day about why he is the perfect blend of rogue-ish cowboy…,” Miller replied when asked why Han Solo is so beloved. “Morally ambiguous, but has a clear moral compass. He’s funny, he’s off the cuffโ€ฆ When I was a kid on the playground, fights were about who got to play Han Solo. He’s just one of the best characters ever created.”

As for the animated Spider-Man the pair are working on, Miller couldn’t share much as it too is shrouded in secrecy. “It is not just another Peter Parker origin story that you’ve seen 400 times,” said Miller. “It is something totally unique and different and not like anything you’ve seen. That’s all I can sayโ€ฆ and you’re going to love it!”

The Han Solo film is slated for a May 25, 2018 release date. Sony Pictures announced a July 20, 2018 release date for the Spider-Man animated feature film.
