BBC America President Sarah Barnett commented on decision by saying, “Orphan Black is a thrilling, genre-bending ride that has captured our fans’ imaginations and hearts like no other show.”

She went on to say, “Our genius team of actors, writers and producers have, time after time, taken us to a place of awe, delight and utter shock and surprise. Tatiana has been and continues to be a complete revelation, hers is one of the most remarkable performances on television, and she is joined by an extraordinary cast. We can’t wait to take our incredibly passionate audience on one final gobsmacking clone adventure.”

The fifth season has confirmed to consist of 10 episodes and is slated to air on BBC America next year. The fourth season of Orphan Black is currently wrapping up and will have its finale air tonight, June 16th.

Starring Tatiana Maslany as its lead, Orphan Black premiered back in March 2013 to critical praise. The show since has helped develop BBC America as a channel which supports excellent original series. The show is produced by Temple Street in association with BBC America and Space.

The series’ co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson also commented on the show’s end. “We are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show. We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC America and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high,” they said.

For fans of the show, who refer to themselves as members of the ‘Clone Club,’ this news likely comes as a blow considering their love of the series. Praising Tatiana Maslany’s work, the fandom has spoken openly about their desire to see the actress win a Golden Globe as Maslany has played 14 different clones on Orphan Black.

Now, with the show officially coming to a close, fans will be campaigned harder than ever for the actress as they enjoy the final season of the beloved series.
