The Geekie Awards are, as their name implies, a celebration of geek culture. An award show put together in the hopes of recognizing the best in all things geek (which often get the short shrift from more traditional awards shows), the first annual ceremony is happening in August, after nominees are announced this June. And, unsurprisingly for such a ceremony, the first-ever lifetime achievement award will go to Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee, whose innovative approach to writing and editing helped shape the comics industry of today and whose characters have populated some of the most popular and highest-grossing films in recent history. The 90-year-old had a hand in creating dozens of popular Marvel heroes and villains, and has been the public face of the company more or less since the early ’60s. To this day, he makes it a habit to appear briefly in films based on his characters, making him one of the few performers to cross lines between studios and appear in the Fox, Sony and Disney Marvel Universes.
