Paramount announced early this morning that Star Trek Into Darkness‘s UK release date has been moved forward a week, to May 9th.Barring a change to the U.S. release date, this means that movie will release six days earlier than the first U.S. release (in IMAX, which is another two days before the general release). This has been happening more often recently; if you’ll remember, Marvel’s The Avengers was released a week earlier in a number of other territories than it was in the United States, resulting in bootleg copies of the movie being widely available in the U.S. prior to its theatrical release. Iron Man 3 is also set to hit the U.K. earlier than the U.S. Many films, like Wreck-It Ralph, which just came to video in the U.S. but was only recently released theatrically overseas, go the other way.
