It’s crazy to think that The Walking Dead was once planning on killing a character who is now a staple of the show.
Greg Nicotero, the show’s co-Executive Producer and VFX guru, revealed an interesting fact about season three when T-Dog was brutally killed off in the episode titled, “Killer Within.” Back in those prison days when he saved Carol’s life, it was Carol who was originally intended to die.

“Not a lot of people know that when we were shooting season three, in the episode where T-Dog died, there was a moment where Carol was going to die in lieu of T-Dog’s character,” Nicotero tells Gamesradar. “At that point there was some concern in the writers’ room that they didn’t know where to take her character. So the fact that [showrunner] Scott Gimple and the writers have been able to craft this amazing journey for her just goes to show that there is a tremendous amount of story to tell for a lot of these characters.”
It’s weird to think that the writers had a better idea of where to go with T-Dog, a character who had so few lines and development, than Carol. The writers really can make a character whoever they want, so it’s interesting to imagine where they would’ve taken T-Dog if he would have made it to Alexandria.
We’ll see how Carol’s story continues to play out when The Walking Dead returns on Valentine’s Day at 9 PM ET on AMC.
