Justice League might be getting a divisive critical reception, but it's off to a great start overseas.

The DC team-up has already amassed $8.5 million in its first day of screenings. The film is being shown in nine markets, which equals out to around 6,000 screens. The leader in that pack is Brazil, which opened on Wednesday to an estimated 3.7 million on 1,509 screens.

That happens to be the biggest industry opening day of all time there, and it's a country that has shown substantial love to DC films in the past. It started with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which saw Brazil as the No. 3 international market, and for Wonder Woman Brazil moved to No. 2.

Other areas overperformed, like Korea, which brought in $1.14 million on 1,195 screens, and that was with half day showings and an earthquake in the region throwing things off. France opened up with $1.1 million on 687 screens, while Indonesia opened with $895,000 on 888 screens. Justice League also gave Warner Bros. its biggest opening day in that region.

Justice League opens up in 38 additional markets starting today, while the film opens in China starting tomorrow.

The film is expected to bring in anywhere from $325 million to $355 million worldwide after its first-weekend concludes. That shakes out domestically to around $110 to $120 million, but estimates typically skew conservative, so expect around the high side of that ratio or more.

The good news is that Justice League should have longer legs. Critical reviews are mixed, but audience reactions seem to be favorable, and that could translate to the same success that Suicide Squad experienced. Ticket sales for Justice League are also outpacing the gem in DC and Warner Bros. crown Wonder Woman, and that can only be a good sign.

Superman actor Henry Cavill has one thing in particular that he wants fans to walk out of Justice League with though, and it boils down to one word.

"For me, I hope people walk away from it first of all having enjoyed it and had fun, but more importantly to have it inspire, and to walk away with a sense of hope," Cavill said.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17.
