Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are Hollywood contemporaries now, but at one time they were actually competing for a role as Batman's sidekick.

Batman star Ben Affleck, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about his upcoming film Justice League when the topic wavered over to Matt Damon. Damon and Affleck have been friends for some time and even started out with the same agent. That's what initially led them to a secret audition, one that turned out to be Tim Burton's 1989 classic Batman.

"Well, the best one and in retrospect one that hurts me still to this day," Affleck said. "We weren't' sure what it was because they told us it was a secret project, so they gave us obviously a kind of dummy, generic scene about a kid who wanted to...I don't know, race BMX's or something. Anyway, that's not the point. We go down there and we're about to read and when we get into the room they tell us 'we didn't want anyone to know about this and you need to keep it a secret, but this is actually an audition for, Tim Burton is making a movie of Batman, and this is for Robin'"

The two felt pretty confident that they would be the new Boy Wonder after the audi8tion. "So we both auditioned for Robin, and we were both pretty sure we got the part," Affleck said. "On the way down the elevator, we were both kind of like 'listen, no hard feelings man if you get it. I wish to God he had gotten that part."

If you've watched Batman recently, you know there was no Robin character in the film (or its sequel)."No, they didn't end up using it," Affleck said. "They ended up deciding it was an "ambiguous relationship" I remember them telling me. What are you talking about? He fights crime...in panties."

Robin wouldn't show up in the movies until Batman and Robin, which is a whole other article on its own.
