Ben Affleck On Directing Batman: ‘We’re Good And Going’

The DC movie fanbase has been in abuzz lately about the status of The Batman, the solo film being co-written, directed and starring Ben Affleck. As the wide release of Affleck’s new film, Live By Night, approaches, the filmmaker has been inevitably confronted with question after question in the press, about where The Batman is in production, and what fans can expect from it.

The recent buzz was generated when Affleck recently made claims that basically stated that he wouldn’t just make a Batman solo movie for the sake of an arbitrary DCEU release date timeline, and that if the film didn’t enter production in a way he saw fit, he won’t make it. That sentiment seemed to fly in the face of Warner Bros. executives, who had already soft-confirmed The Batman as a 2018 release – although a lot of fans thought the whole matter was much ado about nothing, claiming Affleck and WB were moving forward with a unified front.

Today we have even more developments on The Batman front: as soon as we just got word that The Batman may have been pushed to allow for proper development, we also have Affleck claiming that things are moving forward, and that the boat is steady.

Fox 5 of Philadelphia’s Kevin McCarthy was finishing his interview with Affleck at the Live By Night press junket, when he took a chance to speak for so many fans, pleading with Affleck to ‘please direct Batman.’ Affleck’s response? “We’re good and going!”

Even though the response seems genuine in the video, there are no real details, still, on where “good and going” puts things. The current rumor is that Affleck won’t have to start as soon as spring 2017 (possibly allowing more pre-production time, like nailing down a script) – however, the film is still expected to start filming in the latter half of the year. That would likely put it at a holiday season 2018 or March 2019 (same month as Batman v Superman) release.

In any event, one thing we can take away is that Ben Affleck doesn’t seem as concerned as the Internet is about his chances of helming the Batman solo movie. We can probably let the buzz settle until actual details like a title/subtitle, official casting list and story details begin to emerge in the coming months.
