Many will compare Christian Bale‘s Batman to Ben Affleck’s, but Bale couldn’t even if he wanted to.

That’s because Bale hasn’t actually seen Ben Affleck in the role. Bale has previously admitted to not being a huge fan of the genre, and that’s partly to blame for not seeing either of Affleck’s two outings as the character (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League respectively).

“I have not [seen Ben Affleck‘s Batman],” Bale told Josh Horowitz. “Yes I’m interested [in seeing it], my son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see the trailer and that was itโ€”I tend to go see films that [my kids] want to see. I have to confess I’m not a huge superhero film fan. People seem surprised at that, I don’t know why. I’ve not seen any of the Avengers films or any of those films at all. I hear they’re very good, but I’m quite happy just hearing they’re very good.”

Bale’s time as The Dark Knight is often heralded as one of the best interpretations to hit the big screen, but Bale isn’t as over the moon with his trilogy.

“Mixed emotions about it,” Bale told Variety. “I’m always eternally grateful to [director] Chris [Nolan]. For instance, Rescue Dawn, Werner [Herzog] and I had been trying to put that together for a few years. American Psycho, Mary Harron and I had been trying to put that together for a few years. No one was interested. Why? Me. Suddenly everyone said, ‘Yeah, alright. We’ll go with him.’ It did change everything. It was the first time I had done a film of that magnitude. That was a real learning curve for me. I wrestled with it for a long time. I still do on occasions. But I’m just learning, hey, accept the good things.”

When it comes to critics, Bale and Nolan’s The Dark Knight is #1 all-time in ComicBook.com’s composite rankings, while Batman Begins is #18 and The Dark Knight Rises is #20. While the other ratings fluctuate in the User ratings, The Dark Knight still sits atop of everything else with a 4.47 out of 5.

Bale still has a chance to see Affleck in action though, as Justice League is currently in theaters.
