It was the trailer the comic fans had been waiting for.

Right after the Wonder Woman movie trailer was shown at the Warner Bros/DC panel in Hall H Saturday afternoon at San Diego Comic-Con, the first trailer to Zack Snyder’s Justice League was presented. It was light on action, but full of humor and character moments (who didn’t love the Bruce and Barry moment?). Why Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice might have briefly introduced us to these characters, we finally see them fleshed out slightly more than before.

There was some great banter between Batman and his recruits, but what made our list for the five best lines of the trailer?

Follow along as we go through our favorite quips from the very first Justice League trailer.

Poor Barry Allen.ย

Being given super powers isn’t always a gift from God, and can act like a curse at times. While Barry is still an investigative forensic specialist in the DC Extended Universe, he might not be the most popular guy around. Much like Bruce who acted as a loner for most of his superhero career, Barry is also doing his own thing, but might be looking for some help or even some friends to make the job go a little bit easier and not so lonesome.ย

Before Bruce can even finish his spiel about recruiting, Barry interjects with how he’s in. “Just like that?”, Bruce asks.

“Yeah,” Barry stammers, shifting his eyes trying to find the words. “I need friends.”ย

Bruce nods in possible agreement.ย

“I hear you can talk to fish.”

ย

Yeah yeah, we all know the jokes about Aquaman’sย a useless character that it’s not all that helpful when he can just talk to fish. That was a running gag for years, but I don’t think people will think Aquaman is all that useless when they get a load of this Aquaman.ย

Bruce confronts Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and mentions that he’s heard he can talk to fish. He says it with such a grin, it’s almost as though he’s saying “I got you”. While it’s true that Aquamanย can talk to sea life, you have to remember that some of nature’s strongest predators come from the depths of the ocean, not from the land. Also, being King of the Ocean isn’t a bad position to be in when Earth itself is 75% water.ย

“Didn’t think you were real.”

We only got the briefest of glimpses of Cyborg/Victor Stone in Dawn of Justice, and while he didn’t get a lot of screentime in the Justice League trailer, either, his line is a fascinating one.ย

In a world where Superman is real, Stone himself is a walking and talking computer system, and he’s partnered with the fastest man alive, the idea that somebody like Batman is something out of urban lore makes this interaction even more poignant.ย

Late in the trailer, Cyborgย tells Batman point blank “I heard about you. Didn’t think you were real.” Batman assures his teammateย that he is most definitely real “when it’s useful”.ย

“He said no.”

Fans already got a hint of Bruce and Diana’s rapport in Batman v Superman, but with the two leading the way of trying to find the super humans that Lex Luthor had been spying on is a whole other endeavor.ย

We can see that the Bruce is trying to recruit Arthur Curry/Aquaman at the beginning of the trailer, and it seems that coaxing him into joining their new team had its own set of hardships. When Diana asks about the status of Aquaman’sย membership, Bruce replied that he’ll “more or less” fight with them.ย

“More-more, or more less?,” she asks.ย

“Probably more less,” he responds.ย

“He said no?,” she wonders.

“He said no,” Bruce confirms.ย

Of course, that was spliced with Arthur roughing up Bruce along the way. It’s a humorous moment, which fans were asking more for this time around with Justice League.ย

“So you’re fast.”

Bruce has used the information that Lex had on a select few of superhumansย and tracked them down. One was Barry Allen, the Flash, and in their encounter, Barry tries to deflect Bruce’s comments about, but then Bruce tries to catch him off guard by throwing a batarang.ย

Well, if you’re the Flash, you’re able to dodge it and catch it. It’s what you do.ย

Bruce takes note of Barry’s obvious speed powers and makes the astute conclusion that Barry is very fast. It’s also in this moment that Barry realizes who is actually trying to recruit him. The look on his face when he sees the bat-shaped weapon is almost too perfect.ย
