Which Arrowverse Character Could Be Replacing Firestorm on 'Legends of Tomorrow'?

It's been a rough season for the heroes of The CW's Legends of Tomorrow. Not only did Martin Stein die during the "Crisis on Earth-X" crossover, but at the end of the midseason finale last week Jax Jackson left the team after realizing that he needs to find a way to move on from losing Stein.

With the Legends officially down two team members who happened to make up one pretty awesome hero, there's an opening for someone new to join up and help them track down the anachronisms they've been hunting all season, even if the timeline might be broken around them. While no one could ever fill Stein or Jax's shoes, the team needs someone to at least fill their heroic role. With Damien Darhk a threat and Mallus emerging as a dangerous force to be reckoned with, it's a slot that needs to be filled ASAP. But who might come aboard the Waverider next? We have a few ideas about that.

Constantine

Much to the delight of fans, John Constantine (Matt Ryan) made his return to the Arrowverse briefly during the midseason finale, and as we've seen in the promo for the show's midseason return -- which we unfortunately have to wait until February for -- Constantine is sticking around for a little while. Having saved Sara Lance/White Canary's (Caity Lotz) soul back in Arrow's fourth season, Constantine needs her to return the favor now with a particularly tricky exorcism.

While Constantine's appearance could be temporary, Sara's encounter with Mallus during the midseason finale could provide not only an opportunity but a solid reason why Constantine, who has long been a fan favorite, should just join up with the team long term. He'd also be particularly helpful against Darhk, who seems to have a pesky way of constantly showing up to cause trouble for the Legends.

Wally West

With Barry (Grant Gustin) back from the Speed Force on The Flash, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) didn't really have a purpose on Team Flash anymore and left Central City to try to forge his own path in Blue Valley. But Wally's situation in Blue Valley isn't permanent -- he was staying with a friend -- and he likely already knows and has some experience with the Legends thanks to various crossover events. And, like Jax, Wally is younger than the rest of the team, so it might be a good fit for him to bring that perspective to the Waverider.

There's also an advantage for the team if Wally were to join. Wally's a speedster, something the team doesn't currently have, and that would have come in handy when dealing with Eobard Thawne last season. And since we know Thawne will pop up again eventually, having the Speed Force on their side would be a huge boon for the team.

Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man

The Legends are a team of heroes that don't fit in and are, generally, screw ups. It sounds like a perfect place for Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer) to end up. While it's been great to see Elongated Man on The Flash, the truth is that the character (and actor) is being wasted in Central City as there really isn't much for Ralph to do. It's also fairly obvious that the character just isn't a good fit with the rest of Team Flash, but he would make a terrific addition to the Legends. On the Waverider, Ralph would get a chance to not only fit in a bit better, but also to truly stretch his heroic skills. And, like Wally, his abilities are unique compared to the rest of the team, so he'd make a good addition there, too.

And honestly? It'd be fun to see him irritate Zari (Tala Ashe) on a weekly basis.

James Olsen/Guardian

Speaking of characters no one seems to know quite what to do with, Supergirl's James Olsen/Guardian (Mehcad Brooks) is another character we can add to that list. While fans got to see a lot of James during the show's first season, and then got to see him become Guardian in the second, this third season of the show has been pretty light on the photojournalist-turned-superhero-turned-boss-at-CatCo. Why not send him over to the Waverider to hone his heroic skills for a season or two? Now that the Legion of Super-Heroes is in town back in National City, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) has plenty of help. Besides, if Reign (Odette Annable) can nearly kill Supergirl, Guardian stands no chance against the threat of the Worldkiller.

Any redeemable villain

One of the best story arcs in comics and television alike is that of the villain turned hero. Everyone loves a redemption arc. Look at Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell). He and Wenthworth Miller's Captain Cold joining the Legends initially was a lot of fun, but watching Mick briefly lean back towards a villain's life only to firmly side with the heroes when it came time to defeat the Legion of Doom last season was deeply satisfying. And while a version of Leonard Snart is back on the Waverider, Miller will be exiting the Arrowverse soon, which means there is a seat at the table open for someone else to shake off the evil and become one of the good guys. We'll gladly tune in for that.
