BOOM! Studios today announced as part of its run-up to New York Comic Con that they will co-publish a crossover story between Green Lantern and Planet of the Apes with DC.

The project represents is the second collaboration between BOOM! and DC. The companies are currently co-publishing Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy; issue #5 (of 6) of that series will be out October 12th.

Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern will kick off in February 2017. Details about the creative team, storyline, and cover images will be released at a future date. The publishers released a teaser image to get fans excited:

BOOM! has previously partnered with IDW Publishing on Star Trek/Planet of the Apes (published through IDW) and is currently working with Dark Horse Comics on the just-launched Tarzan on the Planet of the Apes (published through Dark Horse).

For DC, Green Lantern has become a go-to property for crossovers; the publisher is currently working with IDW Publishing on their second crossover between the Green Lantern Corps and the crew of Star Trek's USS Enterprise.

It seems likely that the Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern crossover will have to directly address the idea of a multiverse. Assuming that DC's future is destined to be the world from the Planet of the Apes franchise asks more questions than it answers.

On the other hand, Jack Kirby's fan-favorite fantasy series Kamandi was famously created when Kirby, hoping to get the Planet of the Apes license, couldn't do so and instead set out to make something similar enough to scratch that creative itch.

Earlier today, DC announced that they would launch a year-long maxiseries The Kamandi Challenge, which would be written and drawn by a different creative team covering a different part of the world of Kamandi every month.

Check back this weekend for more details; it's likely something will come out of New York Comic Con, which runs Thursday thorugh Sunday.
