The heroes of the DC universe have at times been enlisted to the Green Lantern Corps, but you probably never expected Superman to end up on the side of fear.

That’s exactly what happens though in Superman #30, and if you haven’t read the issue yet, just be warned that spoiler territory is imminent.
Still here? Excellent, so if you ever wanted to see Superman wear a Yellow Lantern ring, you’re in luck. Now, it is important to note that Superman might be wearing the ring, but he isn’t subservient to Sinestro.
Sinestro recently returned to the land of the living after an epic fight with his most hated nemesis Hal Jordan, who also managed to make his way back from the afterlife. Since then, Sinestro’s been hunting down the fear entity known as Parallax, a being that he has used as a power source in the past. In addition to using it to power the Yellow Lantern rings, Sinestro also used it to restore his youth when Hal Jordan resurfaced at the beginning of Rebirth.
You can imagine this built up some animosity in Parallax over the years, and now that Sinestro wants to restrain him once again, well, Parallax isn’t exactly down for the idea. That’s why he takes over Superman as his host to battle Sinestro to the death.
Parallax almost succeeds in permanently defeating Sinestro, if not for the aid of his Qward army. They manage to knock Superman out and take him captive, but Parallax still isn’t giving up the fight. He does end up letting go of Superman, however, but Clark still serves as his primary ally against Sinestro and his army even without being possessed.
Superman holding any lantern ring is a frightening thought, something fans witnessed in Blackest Night, but this issue gives a brutal reminder of just why that should never happen.
