Final Fantasy VII And Kingdom Hearts III Producer Explains Lack Of Updates On The Games

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III are dream projects that are pretty much guaranteed to be hugely successful, and yet, Square Enix seems to be reluctant to talk about them. Granted, the publisher did recently reveal Toy Story World for Kingdom Hearts III, but before that, updates were few and far between, and Final Fantasy VII Remake has completely fallen off the map. What's the deal?

Well, French fansite KHIsland recently interviewed Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto (thanks to WCCF for the find), who tried to explain the lack of information on these huge titles…

"For each title (Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts III), there is an established development plan. We must consult it to check on the progress of the game, and to convey the most interesting and relevant information to the public. To give you an example, many events will take place this year. There is Final Fantasy's 30th Anniversary event, Final Fantasy VII's 20th Anniversary event as well as Kingdom Hearts' 15th Anniversary event.

Knowing this, it is obvious that fans are expecting a lot and we wish to show more in order to celebrate all of these events. Regarding Final Fantasy's 30th Anniversary, we have many events planned in Japan. We wish we could give as much information as possible right now, but it is imperative that we keep control on the calendar so we can reveal relevant information at the precise time."

So, basically, there's only so much information to reveal, and a lot of big events coming up, so Square Enix is portioning it out carefully. Waiting for new info can be tough, but, on the plus side, it does sound like we'll know a lot more about both Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III by the end of this year.

Interestingly, Hashimoto also commented on Square Enix's future Marvel titles, striking a rather cautious tone…

"This [Marvel] partnership is similar to the one we already have with Disney for Kingdom Hearts. Firstly, it is necessary to successfully launch the new license. If it's a success, then perhaps we will follow on. We will wait and see what it is going to do before we do anything else."

Kingdom Hearts III is scheduled to hit Xbox One and PS4 sometime in 2018. Final Fantasy VII Remake remains a question mark, although Square Enix has promised it within the next "three years or so."
