Borderlands 4 has been out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X for a few weeks, giving fans of the madcap and post-apocalyptic looter shooter series not just time to play the latest installment, but digest it and ruminate on it. And as our official review of the game notes, there are a ton of improvements from Borderlands 3. There are some regressions as well, though.

To this end, there is a new post on the Borderlands 4 Reddit page dedicated to things players miss from Borderlands 3 because they were either removed or changed in Borderlands 4. And fans miss a lot. That said, there is one feature, in particular, that stands out from the rest, with far more votes up than every other shout.
With almost double the number of votes compared to the next most popular comment is a comment expressing disappointment that Gearbox removed the custom bedroom, even if it was limited in Borderlands 3. Turns out, many Borderlands fans were hoping the feature would be kept and expanded on in Borderlands 4. Gearbox obviously had other plans. In addition to this, the comment also laments the lack of a singular main hub where the whole crew comes together.
“I miss the custom bedroom, as limited as it was. I wish theyโd kept that and expanded upon it in 4,” reads the comment in question. Can you imagine how comically edgy and dark Vexโs room would be? Having a singular main hub where everyone hangs out is nice as well. Instead, we got several smaller ones, and none of them feel very central or have a connection to the Vault Hunter.”
Adding to this in the replies, one fan points out the game doesn’t make you feel a part of a team, but rather makes you feel like “a person doing tasks for others.” Considering this reply has more votes up than most other suggestions shows that this is really another place where the game is lacking.
Of course, the Borderlands 4 Reddit page is not necessarily reflective of the broader fan base, but it is populated by many of the most hardcore fans of the series. Unfortunately, it may be too late for Gearbox to do much about these issues with Borderlands 4, but perhaps this feedback will be acknowledged with Borderlands 5.
The Borderlands series continues to struggle merging its various systems, its gameplay, its story, and its characters into a single cohesive and immersive experience. It’s a good sum of parts, but it still feels like a sum of parts. That said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum.
