We've been paying attention to Golf Story for quite some time. The little indie favorite has been on our minds since we checked it out a few months back, combining all the thrills of top-down old-school golf with a role-playing element, creating something absolutely unique – and fun – in the process. Now, that fun is paying off in spades.

Nintendo has reported the best-selling Nintendo Switch games for the month of September 2017, and while Pokken Tournament DX was set to be the big hit for the system, Golf Story easily scored a hole-in-one with a third place spot.

The game fared well despite releasing later in the month, just like Pokken, and drummed up a great deal of business based on word-of-mouth and very positive reviews from critics.

But Pokken Tournament DX actually placed lower than expected, making it to the seventh place spot on the Nintendo Switch sellers. This may be due to some players owning it previously on Wii U and still playing that edition, though quite a number of people still upgraded or hopped on board the series for the first time.

As for the game that dominated the number one spot, it's all about Ubisoft's awesome strategy game Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, which easily won over fans with its ridiculous antics and fun sense of humor. Sonic Mania followed closely behind in second place, with its fun, nostalgic-based action; and SteamWorld Dig 2 and Overcooked: Special Edition rounded out the top five behind Golf Story.

Here's the full list of the top fifteen!

1. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
2. Sonic Mania
3. Golf Story
4. SteamWorld Dig 2
5. Overcooked: Special Edition
6. NBA 2K18
7. Pokkén Tournament DX
8. Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition
9. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
10. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
11. LEGO Worlds
12. Arcade Archives Mario Bros.
13. Splatoon 2
14. Picross S
15. Snipperclips: Cut it Out, Together!

October should be very interesting, with games like Super Mario Odyssey and Fire Emblem Warriors coming our way, along with a number of indie favorites. We'll see where things end up, and report back to see if Golf Story can complete another go around on the course. After all, who doesn't like a fun golf game for the holidays?!
