NetherRealm studios just successfully unleashed Injustice 2 on the world, but they aren’t the only studio with a knack for making DC Comics games. Rocksteady Studios also know their way around the DC Universe, having produced the acclaimed Batman: Arkham series, and they congratulated NetherRealm on the successful launch of Injustice 2 with a rather super treat.

It may not be immediately apparently, but that’s a cake. Honestly, I’m not sure how edible that thing would be, but it looks cool, and is a nice gesture. It may also be a rather sly hint at what Rocksteady is working on next.

The cake is shaped like Supergirl’s emblem from Injustice 2, which seems like a slightly odd choice for Rocksteady to make. They’re known for Batman stuff, right? Why would they send a cake associated with Superman and his corner of the DC Universe? Wouldn’t a Bat symbol cake make more sense?
Well, not necessarily. Rocksteady has largely been keeping quiet since the release of Batman: Arkham Knight, but rumors have been swirling for some time that they’re working on a Superman game. Arkham Knight contained an unusual number of references of Superman, Lex Luthor, and Metropolis, and Rocksteady have a history of teasing future projects in their games, sparking plenty of speculation.
Obviously, nothing has been confirmed by Rocksteady Studios or publisher Warner Bros. Interactive, but it certainly seems like the Arkham guys currently have the Superman family on their minds. Rocksteady should send NetherRealm another cake inspired by, I dunno, Swamp Thing, just to throw fans off the trail.
