The detectives at NeoGAF have been redeemed! They had predicted that a Nintendo Direct would be coming in the very near future after spotting a few clues on Nintendo's website. Lo and behold! Nintendo has announced that a Nintendo Direct is coming tomorrow! Before you get too excited, I don't think we'll be getting the Pokémon Stars announcement that we've been wanting. Nintendo has stated that this Direct will be focused on ARMS, per this brief press release:
"A new Nintendo Direct presentation arrives on Wednesday, May 17, providing a deep dive into the upcoming ARMS game for Nintendo Switch. As a bonus, a new trailer for Splatoon 2 will also premiere at the tail end of the video, so make sure you stick around for everything! Watch the Nintendo Direct presentation live by visiting http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct on May 17 at 3 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. ET."
So we may not be getting any huge Pokémon news, but we are getting some new scoops on two of Nintendo's hottest new first-party games, and that's enough to get us hyped as hell. ARMS is one of the most exciting new IPs on the horizon right now, and it's coming to you from the same creative minds who produced Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. You can expect a polished, colorful game with highly refined gameplay mechanics.
Interestingly, the same think-tank that came up with Splatoon for Nintendo was also responsible largely for ARMS. As soon as we saw ARMS for the first time and watched some gameplay, we realized that it was in the same spiritual vein as Splatoon, and that's music to our ears. Nintendo was willing to take a huge risk with Splatoon, knowing well that it was a concept and execution unfamiliar to mainstream gamers. It paid off in a huge way, and Splatoon has become one of Nintendo's staple IPs. We're hoping the same thing will happen with ARMS.
ARMS is launching on June 16, and we can't wait for you guys to get your hands on it. You can read our arms-on preview (sorry for the terrible pun) from the Nintendo Switch preview event back in December right here. We know that it's going to be a huge hit. Tune in right here tomorrow: We'll be hosting the livestream, and we'll want to hang out and watch it with you guys.
