Despite theories about the series that might suggest otherwise, Square Enix says that the Deus Ex games aren't at all finished.

Several reports from earlier in the year indicated that the series might be in a bit of trouble following the lackluster sales of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and many ran with that information and came to conclusions about the series. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda set the record straight and stressed that they've not given any indication that the Deus Ex series was coming to an end.

"We have never said anything about discontinuing that title but for some reason that's the rumour out on the market," Matsuda told GamesIndustry.biz.

Elaborating on that statement, Matsuda continued by adding that the any delay for a new Deus Ex game can be attributed to other reasons such as Square Enix working on several different titles at one time.

"What I can say is Eidos Montreal has always developed Deus Ex, and the issue is we do not have limitless resources. We have several big titles that we work with and that's partly a factor in what our line-up looks like. Of course, it would be ideal if we could work on all of them all of the time, but the fact of the matter is some titles have to wait their turn. The reason there isn't a Deus Ex right now is just a product of our development line-up because there are other titles we are working on."

And while there's not much known about the next installation in the Deus Ex series, Square Enix says that they're already looking forward to the next game with big plans already being talked about.

"We are already internally discussing and exploring what we want to do with the next installment of it," Matsuda added while calling the series a "very important franchise."

Matsuda covered other topics aside from Deus Ex such as Tomb Raider and the publisher's work with Western Studios, the full interview seen here.
