I debated posting this headline for some time, but figured that I'd present this information to you all with the explicit warning that, at this time, this is nothing more than a Reddit rumor with some interesting corroborations. If nothing else, this will make for some interesting speculation. With that out of the way, the rumor concerns an impending Street Fighter V overhaul in the form of Super Street Fighter V.

Poster Rikurikumore penned a rather lengthy report that you can find here, which contains a number of supposed details about Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite's upcoming roster and DLC that we won't get into right now. Toward the end of the post he directs his attention to Street Fighter V, which is supposedly due for another season of DLC and, eventually, a complete rebranding.

His credibility will be put into check soon, since he states that Season 2's remaining DLC fighters will be Abigail, Menat, and Zeku. If those fighters don't pan out, then you can probably ignore everything that follows. He goes on:

"A second cinematic story mode is happening. The base roster plus the Season 1 characters were prologues for the general cinematic story mode. Season 2 character's story modes for Akuma, Ed, and Kolin, which all take place after A Shadow Falls are prologues for the second cinematic story mode."

And finally, the big one:

"Super Street Fighter V is happening. But it'll be a free update. It won't make the base game useless either. It's really nothing more than an update. A glorified one, but an expansion none the less. But what does SSFV contain? Lets run that down, shall we? It adds:

  • Arcade Mode

  • Extra Battle

  • Some kind of PvE mode against the Illuminati

  • Some expanding on the existing mechanics

  • New Critical Arts

He goes on to state that Super Street Fighter V will also introduce six new characters: Sagat, Sakura, Oro, C. Viper, Q, and Necro. These characters, he asserts, were already leaked by Alex Valle, who mentions them rather nonchalantly in this tweet (and perhaps it meant nothing more than that):

Some players are also pointing out BornFree's corroboration as vindication:

Neither tweet is conclusive, but they are something. In the end, this really is just a rumor from Reddit, but one we thought you'd like to keep your eye on as we do. Stay tuned for more.
