Alamo Drafthouse to Celebrate Stephen King With Their "King-Size Summer" Screening Series

Between Pet Sematary hitting theaters earlier this year, the upcoming IT CHAPTER TWO, and Doctor Sleep, Stephen King's stories are a major force at the box office this year. In the decades since the first adaptation of his work hit theaters, a number of his most beloved novels and short stories have earned feature films, the successes of which have varied. The author even delved into the world of filmmaking with Maximum Overdrive, his sole foray into directing. To celebrate the accomplishments of the author, Alamo Drafthouse locations across the country will be honoring King with screenings of many of his most acclaimed adaptations.

"We're crazy with anticipation for IT CHAPTER TWO, so to ease the wait, we're revisiting some of our favorite Stephen King adaptations," Sarah Pitre, senior director of programming and promotions, shared in a statement. "These screenings will provide a chilling countdown to the final chapter of one of his most beloved works of fiction. Plus, it's a great opportunity to build up our fear tolerance before we're scared out of our minds by IT CHAPTER TWO!"

Following the announcement of the event, King himself tweeted about the series, noting that "You like this? I like it. Includes Maximum Overdrive, not a great movie, maybe, but the soundtrack kicks ass. Hard. AC/DC."

"Stephen King loves genre movies as much as we do," Joe Ziemba, director of genre programming, shared. "From gushing about horror in the non-fiction book Danse Macabre to directing Maximum Overdrive, King's passion for film is infectious. That feeling is represented in every movie that we've chosen in this celebration of his cinematic legacy."
