At this year's San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Studios took time to announce which actress they had cast to play Carol Danvers in their upcoming Captain Marvel film. While dozens of actresses were fan-cast for the role, Brie Larson ultimately became the lucky woman who signed onto the project. And, now, Brie has taken to Instagram to thank all of the fans who've supported her new role.
"Woke up this morning thinking about the tidal wave of support I got this weekend," she wrote. The actress posted the message alongside of photo of her curled up on a couch, dressed in comfortable sweats. The photo emits a quiet, raw atmosphere that's only enhanced by Brie's smiling face. Of course, the actress has much to be happy about - She's a recent Oscar recipient, and now, she's set to star on one of Marvel's most anticipated films. But, as the Brie explains, she was very nervous to announce her new role.
"It was nerve-racking to trust fall into the Internet! I know who I am, but its wild how quickly you can forget once someone calls you something terrible. I was reminded how the acceptance of community is a deeply rooted need - but I don't want to live worried people will hate me because I'm myself!" She went on to say, "Yeah, people can be mean, but they can also be so many other wonderful things too. Let's make this place a safe space. No hate and more understanding. To the followers that are new: welcome!"
Of course, there were plenty of naysayers who took to the Internet to blast Brie for taking on Carol Danvers' role, but the hero's fandom - the Carol Corps - has come to lift the actress up. And, in the face of Captain Marvel's upcoming production, those fans will only continue to support Brie as she dons the character's now iconic blue-and-red jumpsuit.
