Deadpool 2: Atlanta Star Cast as Domino

Deadpool 2 is back on steady track after some early production troubles, which resulted in a change of director from Tim Miller to John Wick‘s David Leitch. The Deadpool sequel has the task of introducing some heavyweight characters from the X-Men comics to the big screen for the first time; including time-hopping soldier, Cable, and Cable’s right-hand (wo)man, Domino. Both roles have reportedly been highly contended, and the “shortlist” of actors being considered for each role has been anything but short.

Recently, it seemed as though we were making headway on both fronts: Stranger Things star David Harbour has been rumored to be in negotians to play Cable, whilesinger/songwriter-turned-actress Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures, Moonlight) was rumored to be the clear frontrunner for Domino.

Now, however, there’s another candidate being floated as the confirmed casting for Domino: actress Zazie Beet.

Ryan Reynolds himself name dropped her on Twitter moments ago:

If you don’t recognize the name, Beet stars in Donald Glover’s Golden Globe-winning new series Atlanta, in which she plays the pragmatic baby mama to Glover’s idealistic dreamer/schemer. Beet earned her spot in the ensemble during Atlanta‘s freshman season – even going so far as leading several episodes. Her mix of comedic wit and dramatic vulnerability would make her a fine choice for Domino – though probably one of the more obscure ones, in most fans’ minds.

The Deadpool sequel is currently in pre-production. Reynolds will return with writer Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. David Leitch will direct. The film will introduce Deadpool’s time-traveling mutant partner, Cable, as well as X-Force member Domino. Members of the original film’s supporting cast are also expected to return.
