Marvel’s The Inhumans is just days away from its IMAX debut where audiences will finally get to see how the latest Marvel Television offering turned out after months of criticism and concern over many of the show’s CGI effects.

Ahead of the really big screen reveal, the show’s stars Serinda Swan and Anson Mount, who play Medusa and Black Bolt respectively, spoke with Rotten Tomatoes about what fans should know about the show. While we already have an idea about some of what the actors reveal (namely that a four-pound wig isn’t exactly comfortable) there are a few new bits of information to get audiences ready.

It won’t always be clear who the good (and bad) guys are
The show’s director Roel Reiné has previously said that Medusa and Black Bolt aren’t exactly heroes, but Swan said that even Medusa has some doubts and the show’s conflict falls into something of a gray area.
“Both sides can be understood,” Swan said. “I think there’s no defined protagonist/antagonist. You see her kind of ebb and flow of what she thinks is right, her moral compass and conflict in the family. Inhumans see the humans as evil and the humans see the Inhumans as evil. So, you see this dynamic, this duality come together where it’s two misunderstandings. You start to bridge that gap over time and [learn] to be more open and compassionate to differences.”
Black Bolt is okay being a man of few words. Maybe.
As comics fans will tell you, Black Bolt talking isn’t a good thing. When he speaks it sets off a massively destructive shockwave that can destroy anything in its path. This leads to the Inhuman king keeping silent and while Mount hadn’t given it much thought, the actor thinks it might be something his character enjoys.
“I would say where I’m starting, I think he’s kind of glad he doesn’t talk. I think it helps him be emotionally removed in a way,” Mount said though he will have to give things more thought should the series go into a second season.
Medusa will fight with more than just her hair
Medusa’s prehensile hair has some serious fight skills. In first looks and teasers, audiences have seen Medusa keep still while her hair does all the dirty work. But Swan says that Medusa has moves separate from her crimson locks.
“There’s lots of other movements. She’s a trained fighter so it depends on what’s going on… If it were something that was an army or another race coming in, you would see a lot more movement from her,” Swan said.
Kids will love Lockjaw
While Swan and Mount admit that there are some scenes that may require some parental monitoring, there is one part of the series that is absolutely kid friend and that’s Black Bolt’s giant, telepathic pooch, Lockjaw. The pup, who recently got his own poster in time for National Dog Day, might be important to the plot but he’s also there for laughs, too.
“The goofy sidekick is usually just there for comic relief. What I love about this, is they found a way to make Lockjaw active in the plot because he’s so dim,” Mount said.
Marvel’s The Inhumans premieres in IMAX theaters on September 1st. The ABC debut follows on September 29th.
