If Baby Groot is going to be coming to the screen on his own — as Vin Diesel believes he is — then the Defenders cast wants it to be on their terms.

In a recent interview with MTV Europe, Iron Fist stars Jessica Henwick and Finn Jones both picked the pint-sized Flora Colossus for a role with the Defenders.
“Are you for real, a Baby Groot spinoff,” Henwick exclaimed.
Yeah. Baby Groot, mixing it up with the likes of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil would be awesome. It will never happen, but it would be awesome.
Jones said that if it were going to go down it should happen in New York City and not Planet X.
“Bring Baby Groot to the Defenders, I think that would be way more interesting,” he said. “I am all for bringing Marvel Studio characters to our world instead of us going to theirs. That would be way more interesting.”
To be fair, it may be more interesting to figure a way for the Earth-bound Defenders to Planet X so that there would be more to the dialogue than, “I am Groot.”
In a previous interview with the same outlet, Diesel said that the language barrier is on everyone else and not the the tree — which has already been to Earth in the comics.
“He’s such an interesting character, and there’s so much to learn about him,” Diesel said. “I’d love to go back to his planet and learn more about him and I think the world would. He’s really a genius on a lot of levels, just we can only hear him say “I Am Groot” because of our sophistication level, not his.”
The entire premise of a Baby Groot standalone has been floated before by Diesel — even tying James Gunn to the project.
“It’s something that James Gunn has talked about, and something that I know he’d love to do,” Diesel said. “Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it’s inevitable, I think, ya know, that character’s so enigmatic. He was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel Universe, and I think what Marvel has done, primarily what James Gunn has done to realize that character has exceeded anyone and everyone’s expectations.”
The drawback for fans is that the Cinematic Universe and the Netflix Universe are unlikely to ever happen.
While speaking at Wizard World Cleveland, Falcon actor by Anthony Mackie all but closed the door on any sort of crossover between two.
“Different universes, different worlds, different companies, different designs,” he said. “Kevin Feige is very specific about how he wants the Marvel Universe to be seen in the film world. It wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t work at all.”
Being shot down may not be all that bad, at least for Jones. The former Game of Thrones actor said doing scenes with Groot could be more trying than anything he has done before.
“It would beso annoying having to play with a tennis ball,” he said. “It’d be like the whole movie you and this tennis ball.”
Well, no matter. Jones’ fear of the yellow fuzzies and fans’ longing for the warm fuzzies are all just theoretical at this point.
