The nominees for the 2014 MTV Movie Awards have been announced, and Iron Man 3Thor: The Dark World, and Man of Steel will all be competing for the award in the Best Hero category. Robert Downey, Jr. has been nominated for his role as Iron Man in Iron Man 3. Chris Hemsworth has been nominated for his role as Thor in Thor: The Dark World. Henry Cavill has been nominated for his role as Superman in Man of Steel. They'll also be going up against Martin Freeman, for his role as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and Channing Tatum, for his role as John Cale in White House Down. It's not terribly surprising to see the three stars of last year's three big superhero films nominated in the category of best hero. It is, however, a little surprising that all three films were left out of the Best Fight and Best Villain categories, with Iron Man 3's Mandarin (Ben Kingsley and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), Thor: The Dark World's Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston)and Man of Steel's General Zod (Michael Shannon) all being left off the nomination list. Iron Man 3 also grabbed a second nomination in the Best Cameo category for Joan Rivers' appearance, and Thor: The Dark World's Chris Hemsworth got a second nomination for Best Shirtless Performance. The MTV Movie Awards will air live, April 19, 2014 on MTV.
