One of the Greatest Crime Thrillers of All Time Is Now on HBO Max (And It’s as Good as Ever)

There have been a lot of iconic crime thrillers released over the years, some of which veer incredibly closely to the horror genre without fully diving in. Films like Nightcrawler or Prisoners fall into this kind of category, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats and frightening them with the terrors of “realistic” criminals. Most movies that fall into this specific subgenre have a couple of films from the past to thank, and one of the most prominent of those titles recently landed on HBO Max.

While this could easily apply to a film like Silence of the Lambs, the movie we’re talking about here is Se7en. David Fincher’s chilling 1995 detective film remains the standard of the crime thriller genre, and it’s a movie fans are still watching with awe today.

The film stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as detectives trying to track down a devastating serial killer that always seems to be one step ahead of them. The killings are all being modeled after the seven deadly sins, and each body seems to bring death closer to their doorsteps.

At the start of September, as many movie fans are gearing up for their Spooky Season watches, Se7en made its way to the HBO Max lineup. While it isn’t an outright horror movie, it’s a perfectly creepy movie that feels just right alongside many of the horror titles on the season watchlist.

HBO Max New Arrivals

Se7en was one of dozens of titles that were added to HBO Max’s streaming lineup at the start of the month. Misery, another thriller that could fall into a lot of the same categories as Se7en, was also added to the streamer.
