Prior to its release, The Conjuring: Last Rites was expected to perform very well at the box office. The previous franchise installments (three mainline entries and a handful of spinoffs) combined to bring in $2.2 billion worldwide, cementing The Conjuring Universe as one of the top franchises in horror. That track record combined with Last Rites being sold as the final time Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga would portray paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren made the film feel like more of an event. It ended up being a perfect storm, as The Conjuring: Last Rites shattered box office records in its opening weekend. Now it’s working its way up the charts and is poised to pass another major milestone soon.

As of this writing, The Conjuring: Last Rites has grossed $332.6 million at the global box office. That already puts it above the totals of fellow horror movies Weapons ($259.5 million) and Final Destination Bloodlines ($310.4 million). Last Rites is hot on the heels of Sinners ($366.6 million) to stake its claim as 2025’s highest-grossing horror movie worldwide. Currently separated by just $34 million, it’s only a matter of time before Last Rites leaps past Sinners.
The Conjuring: Last Rite‘s Box Office Run Explained

It took Sinners months to accumulate $366.6 million, but it looks like it will only take The Conjuring: Last Rites a matter of weeks to surpass it. Last Rites was able to close the gap so quickly because it posted a much higher debut. It blew past expectations to earn $84 million domestically in its opening weekend, a much higher figure than Sinners ($48 million). Last Rites also scored the biggest worldwide opening for a horror film, bringing in $179.2 million. In contrast, Sinners‘ global debut was just $63.5 million.
After its record-breaking opening, The Conjuring: Last Rites had a sizable second weekend drop-off (which was to be expected given how much it made), falling 69.5% at the domestic box office. Sinners held much better in the United States (domestic second weekend gross of $45.7 million) but it wasn’t nearly as much of a draw internationally. For its entire run, Sinners grossed $88.1 million overseas (just 24% of its worldwide total). Last Rites stands at $202.1 million internationally, which is 60.7% of the film’s global haul. That figure has obviously given it a considerable boost, helping the final Conjuring film surge up the 2025 worldwide chart.
The Conjuring: Last Rites has been able to do this despite a mixed critical reception (57% on Rotten Tomatoes), which is a stark contrast from the trifecta of Sinners, Weapons, and Final Destination Bloodlines. All three of those films are Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and rode that word of mouth to strong box office results. That Last Rites is on the verge of beating all of them is an illustration of the franchise’s enduring popularity. The Conjuring Universe has been a draw since 2013 and hasn’t shown any real signs of slowing down.
With how successful The Conjuring: Last Rites has been at the box office, it seems like Warner Bros. will try to find a way to keep the franchise alive in some capacity. The studio could look to greenlight a new spinoff or two, hoping to repeat the performances of something like Annabelle or The Nun. The Conjuring Universe brand is strong enough that a film doesn’t need the Warrens to be a hit. It’s also possible WB ushers in a new era for the property by shifting the focus to Ed and Lorraine’s daughter Judy and her fiancé Tony. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
