Here’s A Description Of Transformers: The Last Knight’s CinemaCon Footage

Down in Las Vegas, CinemaCon is well underway. The annual event has brought some of the biggest studios down to Nevada to celebrate in all things film, and ComicBook is there as well. Brandon Davis is on the ground at the event where he’s been bringing readers news all day, and he was lucky enough to witness new footage from Michael Bay‘s fifth – and final – Transformers films.

At the event, the director held a special panel where he and the film’s cast showed off about 20 minutes worth of film. Before the screening began, stars like Mark Wahlberg talked about their work with the franchise, and the attendee reaction to the film’s footage is enough to make Transformers fans hopeful.

Transformers: The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Haddock).

The cast of Transformers: The Last Knight features Mark Wahlberg (Planet of the Apes) as Cade Yeager, Isabela Moner (100 Things To Do Before High School) as Izabella, Josh Duhamel (Life as We Know It) as Lieutenant Colonel William Lennox, John Turturro (The Big Lebowski) as Seymour Simmons, and Tyrese Gibson (Furious 7) as Robert Epps, as well as Jerrod Carmichael (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World). The voice cast includes Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime and John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane) as Hound.

There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Michael Bay will return to direct. Transformers: The Last Knight opens in theaters on June 23, 2017.

Introduction

A message from Michael Bay first takes the screen.

“We’re the first movie to ever shoot IMAX 3D. We’re gonna spend the extra $10 to $15 million dollars and do it right This is not a number five. This feels like a brand new fresh look into Transformers.”

“They took the movies from the franchise and they expanded upon where it could go from all the way of the beginning of time all the way into the future so we could have multi=spinoffs.”

“I keep getting drawn back in,” he said, nodding to his comments about this being his last Transformers movie.

The crew of Transformers: The Last Knight then spoke about their work on the film. 

Mark Wahlberg was on board the instant Bay called after their work together on Pain & Gain. “If he wants to go back, I’m coming back. It’s as simple as that.”

“I play a character called Vivian Wimbley,” Laura Haddock said. “She is an independent, strong, feisty, intelligent woman. “The two of them together go on this huge journey. They are as strong as each other.” The realize working together is the most beneficial.

“It’s extraordinary because I didn’t know what to expect,” Anthony Hopkins added. “I thought, ‘Just show up. Do what he tells you. Obey orders.’” He compliments Bay, calling him brilliant, and says he could not be bored on the set and Bay never stops. Bay wanted to blow up Stonehenge. He called their set version better than the real one to which Hopkins responded, “Only an American would say that.”

“I met with Michael, had a great conversation, he asked if I would like to be a part of the movie and my response was, ‘F— yeah, I wanna be a part of this movie,” he continued. 

“Being 14 at the time, having my birthday on set was really cool. They sang to me, actually,” Isabella Moner said. “Playing that kind of character and having grown up watching Bay’s Transformers was just something I never pictured happening before I turned 18. Just having this experience and running along with Mark Wahlberg behind things blowing up is just amazing.”

Bay then introduces new footage, stressing the most important takeaway will be the vibe. “The third act of this movie, in 3-D, is stupendous,” Bay said.

Description, Pt. 1

Fireballs crash into an army of knights. Barbarians chant as battle ensues. Horses toss men from their backs. “This is what the end looks like,” one man yells. Medieval armies collide. Flaming arrows fly. Lancelot asks for a magician. Arthur is questioned. His men do not believe in Merlyn. Elsewhere, a bearded and long-haired man chugs some liquor. Presumably: Merlyn. He then discovers a staff which resembles Transformer markings. A cross stands in the ground with blood dripping.

Optimus is seen floating through space. Hopkins narrates the chaos and kids find an engine which crashed in a football stadium. They adventure abandoned Chicago. Some kids want to leave while one wants to explore. They discover a robot inside an abandoned ship and it awakens. A small blue robot rushes towards. Security robots order the boys to step forward and surrender. Isabel tosses something to distract the bot which resembles an AT-AT. The kids run. The little Squeak is shot down, so the kids hide beneath rubble as Izabela watches to guard leave. One boy says he almost had a heart attack. Squeaks approaches and shows his injured arm. She’s been trying to fix him. Suddenly, the rubble above them rises and reveals Canopy, a yellow Transformer, to have been covering them.

Elsewhere, soldiers identify Canopy’s movement and get ready to attack him. A plane launches a missile and takes him out. She begs him to get up. Cade pulls up and invites the kids to hop in before firing at the security bots. Canopy is dying and Izabela wants to fix him, but Cade insists they leave. Suddenly, Bumble Bee emerges to help their fight. The footage cuts to later with Cade walking through a desolate, burning area, discovering he has two green laser sights aimed at his chest. He drops his bags and raises his hand as trucks surround him. Men approach and question where the others are. Cade insists he doesn’t sell out friends and these men can’t shoot their way out of what’s coming. Elsewhere, Desi hears a Predator flying by. Cade quickly orders people into tactical positions. Bee and other Transformers zip closer in car form. Soldiers launch drones from trucks. At an abandoned gas station, Cade, Izabela, and Desi rush inside of a church from an abandoned gas station. The drones are looking for them.

Eventually, the drones start shooting and breaking in. Cade’s group takes a couple out and barricades the door. Desi dropped his gun on the way in and is panicking about getting shot. Izabela spots the drones outside. Suddenly, they open fire. The footage cuts to a later sequence which sees Cade riding one of the drones down to the ground. A human looking robot called Corpin introduces itself to Cade and tells him he has been chosen. With ease, the small bot is able to dispatch a Transformer eager to kill Cade. Corpin offers the opportunity to leave his friends and protect them, stressing that this one moment is the most important for Cade. Cade meets with his group and bids them farewell.

In a later scene, Burton is seen walking with his dog near a castle with a tank outside. Bee, Cade, and Corpin approach. The tank is guarding Burton and takes a shot at them. Burton yells back, calling these people guests, and apologizes to Cade’s group. He calls what happened, “Robet dementia.” Burton rubs his staff on Cade’s arm and asks if he is wondering why the bots keep coming to Earth. In comes a lamborgini which transforms and frees a girl who lands in a field and starts fighting it. Later, Burton introduces himself.

Description, Pt. 2

Cade tries to speak and she shushes him. Vivien Wembley is introduced to Cade Yeager by Sir Edmond Burton. She questions if he has invented anything and he has answers which don’t satisfy her. The human-looking bot attacks Cade, suddenly.  Later, Burton shows off the original round table. A flashback shows Lancelot and other leaders sitting at the table. Then the twelve who came from Cybertron sat here. They rally a fight for humans a the robotic knights draw swords in alliance with the knights. The legend says one knight would be chosen to save the world.

Optimus is seen waking up. “My maker, my doom,” he says. A reel takes over, showing Cade meeting Izabela. Her parents were killed by a Deception. “Two worlds colliding. Only one survives,” Burton said. Flashes of robots fighting in front of Nazi symbols play. Huge bots collide in the air. Josh Duhamel insists the operation is over when Cade wants to stay. Underwater battles ensure. Cade and Olivia explore underground temples. Transformers rise from the water. Knights battle against Optimus. Duhamel’s place crashes. Optimus falls, as does Olivia. Bee and Optimus duke it out. Cade urges him to stop. The title takes over: Transformers: The Last Knight.
