Wish I Was Here Theatrical Trailer Released

Via an e-mail to Kickstarter backers, actor and filmmakers Zach Braff has released the full theatrical trailer for his upcoming film Wish I Was Here, which was filmed partially at San Diego Comic Con International 2013. A teaser trailer for the film was released just over a month ago, giving fans their first look at the Kickstarter-funded feature starring Braff and Kate Hudson as an estranged couple. "I just finished the full trailer (2.5 minutes), and I'm thrilled to release it to you, the best Backers a fella could have," Braff wrote this morning in an e-mail to Kickstarter backers. "But as a 'thank you' for making this movie happen, I also wanted to add something special to it.  You're a pretty remarkable group, so I knew had to be unique and amazing, just like you."

To that end, the link for the trailer asks for the e-mail address backers used when pledging to the project, and then displays their name at the bottom of a custom introduction at the start of the trailer. [For the purposes of this embed, I've used my name and e-mail.] The film, which takes place partially at Comic-Con, will star The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons and Kick-Ass 2's Donald Faison alongside Braff, who plays a middle-aged man who uses fantasy stories as a doorway to homeschooling his son. Braff, best known for nine seasons on the NBC/ABC sitcom Scrubs(on which he starred with Faison), has described it as a sequel in spirit to his 2004 directorial debut Garden State, in which he starred alongside Star Wars and Thor: The Dark World star Natalie Portman. Following the success of Veronica Mars, Braff's Kickstarter drew significant criticism as some claimed that established celebrities shouldn't use crowdfunding to enlist fans to pay for their passion projects. Wish I Was Here  is expected in U.S. theaters on July 18 — just a week before Comic-Con. Whether he will be at the show, or screen the film there, is unknown at this point.
