Armed Man Arrested At Phoenix Comic Con After Threatening Cops

The last week has been a difficult one following the terrorist attack in Manchester. Earlier this week, the world was stunned to learn that a suicide bomber had attacked an Ariana Grande concert as the show wrapped. The attack killed 22 people, leaving the world to mourn the tragic loss. Events around the U.S. tightened up security in response, and it looks like the heightened security may have prevented another disaster. According to a report from USA Today, an armed man was just arrested at Phoenix Comic Con.

Reports have not identified the man in question, but sources say police arrested the suspect after he went onto the convention's floor whilst armed. The attendee was carried three handguns and a shotgun along with a stock of ammunition. The man was also armed with various knives and was wearing body armor at the time of his arrest. A spokesperson for the event said the man "intended to harm Phoenix police."

Another size Azcentral has reported that an "associate" of the man is the one who alerted authorities. The man was taken in without any injuries, and he has since been taken into custody for questioning.

As a result of the incident, all prop weapons have been banned at Phoenix Comic Con for its duration. There will also be additional screening procedures put in place for attendees at random.

Authorities have told fans to enjoy the event and to be aware of their surroundings. The Phoenix PD said there is no evidence which suggests the incident was part of a "grander scheme." For now, the ordeal is being considered an "isolated incident."
