It's a sad day for Hollywood, as it has just been reported that veteran actor Richard Hatch has passed away.

He was 71 years old.

While Hatch has a ton of credits to his name, he is best known for his role as Captain Apollo in the Battlestar Galactica series.

Hatch was featured on the show during it's original run in the late 1970s. He also appeared in 22 episodes of the reboot series, which ran from 2004-2009.

The actor also has roles on All My Children, Baywatch, Santa Barbara, and McGyver.

According to TMZ, Hatch died Tuesday morning, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. A few weeks prior to his death, Hatch began receiving hospice care.

It's sad to see Hatch go, as he holds a dear place in the hearts of all sci-fi fans. Even if you weren't a big fan of Battlestar Galactica, Hatch had a face you recognized, and a smile you'll never forget.

You'll be missed, Richard. Rest in peace.
