This up-close look comes courtesy of Dark Horse’s new hardcover volume The Art of Over the Garden Wall. The book will include numerous pages of production and development art, as well as sketches from series creator Patrick McHale. The book will be written by Paste Magazine’s Sean Edgar

For those not familiar with the series, Over the Garden Wall centers around two half-brothers just trying to find their way home, but they have to navigate through a mysterious forest in order to get there. The two find themselves in the midst of fantastical adventures along the way, and the series boasts vocal talent from stars like Elijah Wood, Collin Dean, Melanie Lynskey, and Christoper Lloyd in order to bring that all to life.

“I’m so happy Sean and Dark Horse got this book to happen! It’s been really interesting going through all my old sketchbooks, notes, and file folders in search of lost bits and pieces from the show’s development,” said Patrick McHale. “This handsome volume will contain a nice mixture of beautiful drawings and paintings from the series, amusing anecdotes about the process, unseen and unused artwork that didn’t make the final cut, other mysterious odds and ends, and a whole lot of horrible ugly early development sketches that should inspire people to say, ‘Hey, I could do better than that!’”

You can find the official description for the art book below.

From Pottsfield to Cloud City, venture up and over and dive right into this colorful hardbound art book.
