Actors

As reported here on ComicBook.com, Arrow star Stephen Amell is starring in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 as Casey Jones, the Ninja Turtles' high-sticking ally. Now with two comic book roles to his name, Amell joins a small list of actors and actresses who have played multiple superhero characters on television shows or movies. Some actors have stuck to one superhero universe, while others have crossed party lines and played both Marvel and DC characters. As Amell doubles up on his four-color features, here are some of the biggest actors who have played multiple superheroes.

Chris Evans

Chris Evans is currently on the set of Captain America: Civil War, filming scenes for his sixth appearance as the Sentinel of Liberty. Before Evans was Captain America, he played Johnny Storm aka the Human Torch in Fantastic Four and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. While some initially criticized Marvel for casting Evans because of his performances in the Fantastic Four films, I can't think of anyone better to don Cap's mighty shield. Evans also starred in Snowpiercer, which was based on a French graphic novel.

Ben Affleck

When Warner Bros. announced that Ben Affleck would star in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice as Batman, the Internet collectively went insane. After all, Affleck had previously played a broody superhero in Fox's adaptation of Daredevil, which was widely panned by both critics and comic book fans. However, Affleck's career has come a long way since Daredevil and many are expecting him to be the perfect foil for Henry Cavill's Superman.

Brandon Routh

When it comes to comic book adaptations, no one's more experienced than Brandon Routh. The versatile actor has played three separate comic book characters over the last ten years. Routh portrayed Superman in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns film in 2006. He then returned to the DC Universe eight years later as the Atom in Arrow, The Flash, and the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow. Routh also portrayed Todd Ingram, the superpowered vegan ex-boyfriend of Ramona Flowers, in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. As if those three weren't enough, Routh also lent his voice to The Batman cartoon's Everywhere Man, a character created just for the show.

Mark Hamill

Outside of a little-known movie franchise called Star Wars, Mark Hamill's most iconic role is voicing the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series and its many sequels and spinoffs. Hamill voiced the Joker for 20 years in various animated projects and video games until finally retiring from the role after the release of Batman: Arkham City. Hamill also played the Trickster in the 1990 Flash series and reprised the role earlier this year in the CW's version of the show. If those villains weren't enough, Hamill has also lent his voice to numerous other superhero characters including the Spectre, the Gargoyle, Solomon Grundy, Maximus the Mad and Tony Zucco in various cartoons over the years.

Adrianne Palicki

One of Adrianne Palicki's best known comic book projects is one that never made it to the silver screen. In 2011, NBC produced a pilot for a planned live action Wonder Woman series starring Palicki as the famous Amazon princess. However, the pilot was a disaster and NBC decided not to proceed with the show. This was the second failed comic book project that Palicki starred in, as she also was a cast member on a planned Aquaman television series that the CW scrapped in 2006. Palicki, a longtime fan of comic books, finally got her chance to play a superhero in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. where she currently stars as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Bobbi Morse aka Mockingbird.
