How To Train Your Dragon 3 Delayed Almost A Year

It looks like How to Train Your Dragon 3 just can't keep a release date down. The animated feature was announced years ago, but it has seen a slew of hopeful premiere dates. Originally, the sequel was set to hit theaters this June, but DreamWorks and Universal Pictures pushed that date back until 2017. Then, the studios pushed it back once again to 2018. And, earlier today, the pair decided the third time was the charm when How to Train Your Dragon 3 was delayed yet again.

The animated feature's new release date is set for March 1, 2019 as opposed to its May 18, 2018 date. The delay will be nearly a year long, meaning that it will premiere shortly after The LEGO Movie 2 hits theaters.

How to Train Your Dragon 3 is no stranger to line-up changes as the project has been pushed back several times since its announcement. As the threequel will almost certainly wrap up its franchise, How to Train Your Dragon 3 was at one point scheduled to face-off against Disney/Pixar's Finding Dory. However, the film was eventually pushed back from 2016 to 2017. The film was again delayed until 2018 after DreamWorks Animation announced it was altering its business strategy to produces 2 new films a year rather than 3 after several box-office slumps.

Judging by the description, it looks like How to Train Your Dragon 3 will continue to mature along with its audience. The second film was applauded for its complex, grown-up storytelling, so it is nice to hear that the third will follow after its predecessors.

How to Train Your Dragon 3 will fly into theaters now on March 1, 2019.
