Production on Mission: Impossible 5 reportedly shut down for one week while the movie's ending was worked on.

The THR report says the ending was said to be "unsatisfactory," and so director Christopher McQuarrie and an unnamed writer friend decide to halt production to work out something better.

The film's release date was recently bumped up from Christmas to the end of July, which one unnamed Paramount executive says is a sign of how much confidence the studio has in the film.

"Chris, Tom [Cruise] and a third person wanted to take a minute to get from what they thought was a good place to a more perfect place," says the executive.

Mission: Impossible 5 is scheduled for release on July 31.
