It's a good thing the Doctor got a new regeneration cycle, because Doctor Who might be looking for a new star soon. The role of the time-traveling alien adventurer is currently held by Peter Capaldi, and while he'll be back for season (series if you're British) ten, he did say it might be his last.

That'll be his third season as the Doctor, and the last two actors have also done three series, though they each had various specials; David Tenant who played The Doctor two actors ago, stretched his run considerably with basically half a season of extra special and longer episodes.

"This could be my final year – it's terrifying," Capaldi told The Telegraph. "I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over. But I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That's my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye."

But first, there's a new Christmas special, featuring this Doctor's first encounter with River Song - incidentally, his wife (it's complicated), and at least one more season of Capaldi. Still, guess it's time to fire up those speculation articles again!
