One of the staples of the Super Bowl in the past few years has been ads featuring characters from Star Wars. Since the big game is upon us, we decided to take a look back at some of the Star Wars themed super bowl ads from years past. In 1997, when Star Wars was being re-released in theaters, Pepsi teamed with Lucas to put together an ad featuring a lightsaber duel between Darth Vader and movie theater usher.

In 2011, Lucas and Volkswagon came together to create one of the most memorable Super Bowl ads, "The Force." The Ad featured a child dressed up as Darth Vader trying desperately to use the Force.

Before the big game in 2012, Volkswagon actually released a teaser for their commercial, featuring a chorus of dogs barking out the theme song to Star Wars.

On game day, Volkswagon unveiled a kind of nesting doll of advertising. They first aired one commercial featuring a dog getting into shape. Later, it was aired again and then, at the end, it was revealed that the ad was playing in the Mos Eisley cantina, where a debate broke out about whether the dog was cuter than the Star Wars kid.

So that's the saga so far. We'll have to wait and see if we get to add to it during Super Bowl XLVIII.
