Late last month, WWE announced that The Fabulous Freebirds would be inducted this year in their Hall of Fame class. Now, WWE recently added that the inductors of the legendary faction will be the current WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day.

While it might seem odd that a triad of eccentric party goers like The New Day to introduce and induct such a team of good ole boys from the Deep South, but there is the one tie that binds them: The Freebird Rule. It's an official rule and gimmick that tag trios have used in the past that means any two members of a faction can defend the Tag Team titles and switch off accordingly. It's been used across the board in various companies and promotions, and is currently implemented by The New Day.

"The Freebird Rule has helped The New Day in many ways," Xavier Woods told WWE. "It allows us to create a different kind of strategy against our opponents that no other team has. You don't know if you're going up against Kofi and Big E, Kofi and myself, or Big E and myself. We have different strategies for different opponents. You never know what you're going to get, like a box of Booty-Os."

The Hall of Fame 2016 induction ceremony will take place Saturday, April 2nd 8PM ET, only on the WWE Network.
