During the latest round of College football playoff games, the company announced that a new Cars 3 trailer would be dropping during the Alabama vs Clemson game (via ComingSoon). That game will take place on Monday, January 9th, 8 p.m. on ESPN, where fans will hopefully learn a bit more about what is in store for Lightning McQueen.
So far the only official member of the cast is a returning Owen Wilson, but it’s likely that Larry the Cable Guy (Towmater), Bonnie Hunt (Sally Carrera), and Cheech Marin (Ramone) will all make returns as well.
The Cars franchise has historically done well for the studio, with Cars 2 pulling in over $191 million domestically and over $562 million worldwide.
You can view the official description for the film below.
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician with her own plan to win, inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet, and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
Cars 3 is set to debut in theaters on June 16, 2017.
