While the film did receive a sequel in 2005 (Directed by Hideo Nakata), it isn’t nearly as highly regarded as the original film. That hasn’t stopped the studio from going back to the girl in the well for the third time though in the upcoming Rings.

This new entry will not star Naomi Watts, who was the star of the first two films, and will be directed by F. Javier Gutierrez. Gutierrez has said that this is indeed a sequel to the first two, so those events did transpire. The debut trailer features new protagonist Julia (Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz) and her boyfriend Holt (Alex Roe). After she intervenes on his behalf and watches the film, Samara marks her new prey, but this time, she seems to have larger goals in mind.

Rings opens in theaters on October 28th. You can read the official description below.
