During his promotional tour, The Rock stopped by Good Morning America to talk about the film, which is shooting in Hawaii, and you might notice there is one aspect of the project he makes sure to stress.
“It’s going great. We’ve been here for a week now. We’re prepping our big first day is this coming Monday, uh, we’re excited to, a continuation, actually this Jumanji is a continuation of the Jumanji story that we all love.”
He made to sure to highlight that the film is indeed a continuation of the franchise, and not a reboot or prequel. That premise didn’t manage to make it to the tweet, though, as the accompanying caption to the video reads “Dwyane @TheRock Johnson says filming the Jumanji reboot in Hawaii ‘is going great!’.
It’s a common misconception about the film, and it is one that the actor has addressed in numerous interviews ever since it was announced.
“And now in two weeks I’ll reunite with ol’ friends Kevin Hart & Jack Black and we have the honor to introduce a whole new generation to the amazing world of #JUMANJI. *(for the record we are NOT making a reboot, but rather a continuation of the awesome JUMANJI story). It’s also crazy to me how much me, Kev and Jack look like triplets when we’re together. ๐ถ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ฟ. Man this is gonna be FUN.”
He also spoke about the joys of shooting in Hawaii, and the benefits that having the film house its production there brings.
“On a personal level, for me to be able to come back to Hawaii, my Polynesian culture, this is the place where I grew up. I got in a lot of trouble here when I was a kid trying to stay on the right path, and just to be able to come back these days, with who I am today and bring a movie like this, this size and magnitude to Hawaii. The jobs that it creates for all the hard working locals is such a cool thing.”
Jumanji will star Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and will be directed by Jake Kasdan.
Jumanji is set to roll into theaters on July 28th, 2017.
