The Walking Dead‘s season six finale has probably been the most talked about episode of the entire series but it didn’t top the charts ratings wise.

On the positive side, the sixteenth episode of the season saw a big gain from the preceding Sunday’s penultimate episode.
Last Day on Earth, which introduced the long-awaited and super-hyped Negan, drew a 6.9 rating in the key 18-49 demo with 14.19 million total viewers. The numbers are a substantial increase from last week’s 5.9 rating and 12.38 million total. By comparison to the season five finale, though, The Walking Dead saw a considerable drop. A year ago, The Walking Dead pulled in an 8.2 rating and 15.78 million total viewers.
The Walking Dead aftershow, Talking Dead, which featured the zombie drama’s poster boy Norman Reedus and big hitter newcomer Jeffrey Dean Morgan, earned a 3.1 and 6.38.
The Walking Dead will return for its seventh season in October. Expect a trailer to spawn out of San Diego Comic Con in July.
