While the Star Wars-themed extensions to Walt Disney World and Disneyland were announced a couple of years ago, construction is currently underway with the areas set to open in 2019.
Now Disney is promising to unveil some new details at the D23 Expo in Anaheim next month in what they’re calling “A Galaxy Of Stories.
The Disney Parks Blog has already provided a few hints. Disney Imagineers are promising a range of interactivity that will make guests feel immersed in Star Wars lore. They’ve already hinted at being able to pilot the Millennium Falcon in an outpost with both Resistance and First Order forces in battle.

The expansion will be 14 acres in both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. The new location is stated to be set in the Outer Rim, making it just out of reach for the forces vying for control of the location. This means there will be a healthy mix of droids and creatures and their star ships in the areas, which Disney promises fans will get a glimpse of at D23.
We’ll likely learn more at Bob Chapek’s Parks presentation at the Expo on Saturday, July 15 at 3pm.
UPDATE: This report previously misstated the expansion will be called “A Galaxy Of Stories,” but that name refers to the preview area at the D23 Expo. It has since been updated for accuracy.
The next film in the Star Wars saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, opens December 15.
