Fear the Walking Dead‘s new episode on Sunday night aired with an intriguing title. The new hour was called, “100.”
The episode title, however, had a very specific meaning.
Throughout the episode, viewers followed Daniel Salazar in the aftermath of his choice to burn down the Abigail Estate. He narrowly survived the fire, earning himself some severe burns on several parts of his body. Luckily for Salazar, a group of friendly faces were around to help him recover and offer him water.
One of those friendly faces was Efrain.
Salazar begged Efrain to offer him forgiveness for the horrible things he had done, which may or may not include unintentionally burning his daughter alive. The other major sin Salazar had felt he committed was killing 96 people.
Efrain offered the forgiveness, insisting Salazar was right in keeping his history from his daughter, and passed out from all of the liquor he had been drinking. It was then when Salazar slipped out and tried to take on the apocalypse as a one man show. Inevitably, he would encounter more groups, but along the way, rack up a few more kills on his counter.
The kills included one of the men who offered help, though Salazar indirectly killed him while obeying Dante’s orders on the edge of the dam. It wasn’t until Salazar was pushed to kill Lola, the woman who had been leading the charge of helping people outside of this tyrannical new location, that Salazar stepped up in a major way. The survivor yanked one of Dante’s guns from his belt and shot him in the head before sending his body over the edge. He turned and shot down another guard before setting his sights on Dante who, with a bullet through his head, would become Salazar’s 100th kill.
“I tell you something, I get chills when I think about it,” Daniel Salazar actor Ruben Blades told ComicBook.com of the final moments in 100. “It was such a wonderful moment, because even at one point I was thinking, ‘What is Salazar gonna do?’ If he’s just going to sell his soul again, but rather get on with the program? Throw these people off? Gonna pull Lola over, and the fact that he chose his best angels, that made me stand up and cheer, I swear to God.”
