There are several mysteries that Alien: Earth needs to address if the series is confirmed for a second season. As the first TV series in the Alien franchise, Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth expanded the world first envisioned by Ridley Scott back in the 1970s in a grounded, slower-burning, and intense new story, set two years before the events of the original Alien movie from 1979. Developed by Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo), Alien: Earth’s first season has come to an end with a cliffhanger that teases stories in an as-yet-unconfirmed season 2 and beyond.

Alien: Earth season 2 may not have been officially announced, but Hawley has expressed his hopes that the series will continue, especially after the open-ended conclusion of season 1. Many questions have been left unanswered, and these mysteries deserve to be explored in a sophomore season. Season 1 made some missteps and left many unresolved stories, but a possible and highly-anticipated Alien: Earth season 2 can address these five questions.
5) Explain Why the Hybrids Turn Against Prodigy More Effectively

While previous Alien movies have all featured synthetic androids, such as Ash, Bishop, and David, among others, Alien: Earth introduced new artificially-created beings. The cyborg Morrow (Babou Ceesay) debuted as the property of the infamous Weyland-Yutani corporation, while Alien: Earth also introduced Hybrids, created when a human consciousness is downloaded into a synthetic body. Prodigy create six Hybrids by uploading the consciousnesses of terminally-ill children into adult bodies, and while the Lost Boys โ named for the children in Peter Pan โ work for Prodigy for much of the series, they changed their allegiances at the end of Alien: Earth.
The Lost Boys’ faith in Prodigy waned throughout Alien: Earth season 1, culminating in them turning against their creator, Boy Kavalier (Samuel Blenkin) in episode 8, “The Real Monsters.” Wendy (Sydney Chandler), the first Hybrid and the group’s leader, concluded Alien: Earth with the promise of the Lost Boys ruling in Boy Kavalier’s place. The Hybrids’ turn against Prodigy, however, wasn’t actually properly explained, and their ambitions and next steps haven’t become clear, so continuing Alien: Earth could reveal more about their plans.
4) Give Us More Xenomorph Action

We did get some brilliant scenes with the Xenomorph โ the iconic alien creature featured in every previous Alien movie โ in Alien: Earth, but not nearly as much as we would have liked. While the creature’s rampage against Weyland-Yutani soldiers and its attack on the USCSS Maginot were thrilling moments, the Xenomorph was also somewhat neutered due to it falling under Wendy’s control. Wendy subjugating the Xenomorph means the creature wasn’t as unpredictable and dangerous as usual, which took away some of its appeal, so we hope Alien: Earth season 2 rectifies this issue.
3) Showcase the Different Alien Creatures & Their Dangers Better

Another aspect of Alien: Earth that made it difficult for the Xenomorph to get the attention it’s seen in the past was the inclusion of other species of extraterrestrial threats. Weyland-Yutani’s USCSS Maginot collected specimens of the Xenomorph as well as a parasitic eye creature that controls its host’s body, a carnivorous plant-like creature that can devour an entire person, large, blood-sucking ticks, and giant, fly-like creatures that can feed off even a synthetic, non-organic body. It was fantastic to see other aliens debut in Alien: Earth, expanding the universe massively, but we wanted to see even more from them.
2) Show Us More of Earth

For a show named Alien: Earth, we saw frighteningly little of Earth itself. The world of the Alien franchise in the years prior to the original Alien movie was controlled by five corporations, Weyland-Yutani, Prodigy, Lynch, Threshold, and Dynamic. The former is, of course, featured in most previous Alien movies, but all the others are new to the series, so it’s a shame none but Prodigy got appropriate development. We only really saw Prodigy’s workings on the “Neverland” Research Island, so we want to see more of Earth and the its corporations in a second season.
1) Reveal Alien: Earth’s True Connections to the Original Alien Movie

Set in 2120, Alien: Earth takes place two years before Alien, so much of the design of the series, especially the look of the USCSS Maginot and the crew’s uniforms, were strikingly similar to the original Alien movie. However, Alien: Earth raised some important questions concerning the original movie that a second season should explain. In Alien, we thought Weyland-Yutani had no prior knowledge of the Xenomorph before the crew of the Nostromo came upon it on LV-426, but we now know this is not the case. Alien: Earth reveals Weyland-Yutani knew about the Xenomorph and many other species long before the events of Alien, and a second season of the FX series could explain exactly what the corporation knew and planned.
