Sci-fi franchises are interesting things. Sometimes, a project takes off spectacularly in one format only to fail to find its footing in another. Other times, itโs the adaptation that soars where the original stumbled. And then there are cases where a project is something truly special, but the adaptation doesnโt find its audience where it originally expected to and in the case of Paramount+โs best original sci-fi series, that is proving to be the case. One of that streamerโs best series to date just made the jump to Netflix and itโs already dominating the top 10.

Season 1 and 2 of Paramount+โs live-action Halo series has just arrived on Netflix and while the high-profile original didnโt quite pay off for Paramount, itโs already gaining momentum on its new streaming home. While all 17 episodes of Halo just arrived on the platform as of October first, the series has already climbed to fourth on Netflixโs top 10. The series, an adaptation of the popular and groundbreaking Xbox game franchise, originally debuted on Paramount+ in 2022 and stars Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, Natascha McElhone as Halsey, and Jen Taylor as Cortana.
Netflix Success Could Bode Well For the Future of Halo

Haloโs early success on Netflix could be an indicator that the series is following in the footsteps of other series that found new life on the streamer after their cancellation elsewhere. Sci-fi series The Extant, for example, gained a whole new following on Netflix while series like Lucifer and Manifest, both of which were cancelled by their respective networks, got new seasons after being picked up by Netflix. If Halo proves to be a huge success for the streamer, it might bode well for Halo that a third season could enter the conversation.
What is certain, however, is Halo coming to Netflix gives the series a whole new audience and, therefore, a new chance to win over fans of the Halo game franchise as well. While the series was incredibly hyped when it was released in 2022, Halo actually proved to be very divisive among video game fans, with many noting that the series wasnโt a faithful adaptation of the game. That said, the second season saw a big improvement in reception from both critics and audiences with the series gathering a lot of praise for itโs more sci-fi elements rather than as a video game adaptation. The series has begun to build real momentum that it didnโt get to build on for a third season. By being on Netflix, this may prove to be the opportunity that the series needs to truly win over fans.
Halo is now streaming on Netflix.
